The San Diego County Treasurer-Tax Collector’s Office is now accepting registrations for interested property bidders. Because the original owners have failed to pay outstanding property taxes- over 1,200 properties are going up for auction for lower than usual starting prices.
Due to its’ incredible popularity last year, the auction will be held online. Last year, they were able to sell 648 properties for $7.8 million. Treasurer-Tax Collector, Dan McAllister says that if the trend continues, this years’ auctions will break that record.
As easy as using eBay, the auction will take place from May 4 to 9 and registration ends on April 26th. In order to register, bidders must make two deposits – $1,000 refundable and a $35 nonrefundable processing fee.
Available properties range from 987 timeshares starting as low as $100- 96 homes or businesses- and 153 plots of land. Because the county’s primary goal is to recover lost property tax revenue, all sales are final – so make sure to do your due diligence when researching properties.
All current owners of the properties have failed to respond to the Treasurer-Tax Collector’s Office for at least the past five years and have until 5pm on May 3rd to pay all taxes and fees.
